Independent judgement and practical follow-through for B2B leaders
Good leaders often sense what is drifting before it shows clearly in the numbers.
Oak CORE gives them independent judgement, practical challenge and follow-through to test that instinct, sharpen the priorities and turn decisions into progress.
It is retained senior support for founder-led and leadership-led B2B organisations facing growth, complexity, change, customer pressure or delivery strain.
Oak CORE helps leaders see clearly, decide confidently and keep important work moving.
When something important is drifting
The warning signs are not always dramatic.
The organisation may still be growing. Projects may still be reporting green. Customers may appear broadly satisfied and leadership meetings may remain constructive.
Yet something does not feel quite right.
- The same conversations keep returning without producing a lasting decision.
- People are busy, but the most important priorities are moving slowly.
- Leadership confidence is not fully supported by customer or market reality.
- Delivery problems are being managed individually rather than understood collectively.
- Growth has introduced more complexity than the leadership system can comfortably absorb.
- Too much still depends on the founder, managing director or a small number of senior people connecting everything.
- An important initiative is consuming time and money without generating enough confidence or momentum.
These situations do not necessarily require another transformation programme, a large consultancy exercise or a full-time executive appointment. They often require an experienced, independent person who can see across the organisation, ask the questions that internal teams may struggle to ask and help turn judgement into practical movement.
That is the role of Oak CORE.
What Oak CORE provides
CORE stands for Clarity, Oversight, Reality and Execution.
These are not rigid stages or another methodology to impose on the business. They are four practical lenses used to understand what is happening, identify what matters and determine what should happen next.
Clarity
What is the real question?
Clarity separates the immediate noise from the underlying issue. It helps leaders establish the decisions that need to be made, the outcomes that matter and the priorities that require attention now.
Oversight
What are we failing to connect?
Oversight looks across functions, initiatives and competing priorities. It exposes dependencies, repeated patterns, gaps in ownership and places where governance is generating activity without providing useful control.
Reality
What is actually happening?
Reality tests internal confidence against evidence from customers, employees, delivery teams, commercial performance and the wider market.
It helps leaders distinguish between what the organisation believes, what its reporting suggests and what people are genuinely experiencing.
Execution
What will turn this judgement into progress?
Execution converts insight into decisions, ownership and proportionate action.
The aim is not to generate another report. It is to help the right people make clearer decisions, follow through and keep important work moving.
Together, the four lenses provide an independent view of where the organisation is aligned, where reality may be diverging from expectation and where leadership attention will have the greatest effect.
How Oak CORE begins
The CORE Fit Conversation
Most CORE relationships begin with a focused Fit Conversation.
This is an opportunity to explore:
- Why the issue matters now.
- Where the organisation feels heavy, unclear or repetitive.
- What has already been tried.
- What the situation is costing in time, confidence, money or momentum.
- Whether the leadership team shares the same understanding of the issue.
- Whether Oak CORE is the right form of support.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly defined brief.
The purpose of the conversation is to clarify the situation sufficiently to recommend an appropriate route—not to force every organisation through the same process.
That route may be direct retained support, a focused CORE Check-Up, another Oak service or an honest conclusion that Oak is not the right fit.

The Oak CORE Check-Up
Sometimes the leadership question is clear, but the underlying causes are not.
The CORE Check-Up is a defined, evidence-led review centred on one important leadership question.
For example:
- Why is a strategically important programme continuing to lose momentum?
- Why are customer outcomes diverging from internal service measures?
- Why is growth creating more activity but not enough commercial progress?
- Where is decision-making becoming slower or less effective?
- What is preventing an agreed strategy from translating into consistent execution?
The Check-Up brings together relevant evidence, leadership perspectives and operational reality to establish where confidence is justified, where important gaps exist and what deserves attention next.
Its principal outputs are:
- A Reality Gap Map, showing where expectations, evidence and experience are aligned—or beginning to separate.
- A concise Clarity Note, setting out the central findings, decisions required and prioritised next moves.
- A recommendation on the most proportionate route forward.
It is a fixed-scope piece of senior work, not an open-ended discovery exercise or a lengthy consultancy report.
Continuing support at the right level
Where continuing support would be valuable, Oak CORE can operate at one of three levels.
CORE Advisory
Regular independent judgement and reality-testing for leaders who have the internal capability to act.
Advisory provides a protected space to examine decisions, challenge assumptions, review emerging risks and prevent important issues from becoming normalised.
CORE Partner
Senior judgement combined with practical follow-through around one agreed priority.
Partner is appropriate when the organisation needs more than advice, but does not require a full-time executive or a large external team. Support may include shaping decisions, aligning stakeholders, strengthening governance or helping an important piece of work regain momentum.
CORE Embedded
Deeper, time-bounded senior support across agreed workstreams.
Embedded is reserved for situations requiring greater leadership capacity, stronger cross-functional coordination or more sustained intervention. Its scope, duration and boundaries are defined carefully to protect focus and avoid creating another layer of meetings or administration.
The appropriate level depends on the importance of the issue, the organisation’s internal capacity and the amount of practical support required.
CORE works alongside Oak’s existing services
Oak CORE does not replace Oak’s established services.
It provides an ongoing senior judgement relationship through which specific needs may be recognised and addressed.
Those needs may involve:
- Product and transformation leadership.
- Digital project rescue and recovery.
- Customer and market alignment.
- Go-to-market strategy and execution.
These remain distinct, problem-led routes rather than being forced into artificial CORE modules.
The principle is simple: start with the leadership question, understand the reality and use the most appropriate form of support.
Direct senior involvement
Every Oak CORE engagement is led directly by Mark Conway.
The CORE approach, tools and working practices provide structure and consistency, but they do not replace personal judgement or disguise delivery through a junior team.
This is deliberately a selective service. The number and shape of engagements are carefully managed so that clients receive the senior attention, independent thinking and practical follow-through they are buying.
Is Oak CORE right for your organisation?
Oak CORE is designed primarily for established B2B organisations where the leadership challenge cuts across functions or cannot be solved comfortably from within a single department.
It is particularly relevant for:
- Founder-led and owner-managed businesses entering a more complex stage of growth.
- Leadership teams dealing with competing commercial, customer and delivery pressures.
- B2B technology and SaaS organisations.
- Professional services firms.
- Manufacturing and engineering businesses.
- Complex service organisations where customer outcomes depend on several teams working together.
- Organisations preparing for, undergoing or recovering from significant change.
It works best where leaders are willing to test their assumptions, make evidence available and act on what the organisation learns.
Oak CORE is not intended simply to validate a decision that has already been made.
Start with a CORE Fit Conversation
If something important feels as though it is drifting, you do not need to wait until the problem becomes fully visible in the numbers. Bring the situation as you currently understand it:
- Why it matters now.
- Where progress feels slower or less certain than it should.
- What has already been tried.
- What the organisation risks if nothing changes.
Oak will help establish whether the issue needs independent challenge, a focused Check-Up, continuing senior support or a different route entirely.
See clearly. Decide confidently. Keep important work moving.
